Everything About Derwent Estate Wines

Located on the Mt Nassau property, Derwent Estate Wines was established in 1992 by planting one variety which increased to 4 in 1997. Currently, 5 varieties are being produced on a 10-acre property. The property has been used for various purposes before venturing into planting vines. This involves vegetable production, poppies, quarrying, seed crops, and production of lime. It’s a family-owned business, taken care of by the members of the third generation.

Viticulturist
A vineyard is a place where all the magic happens, so its imperative to keep both the soil and vines healthy. At Derwent Estate, there is no use of pesticides and insecticides. Rather, an Integrated Pest Management method is implemented to control diseases. The viticulturist, Andrew has worked in the fields since childhood and tried his hands at winemaking. He oversees the fields, ensuring the quality of grapes for making high-quality wines.

Winemaking
Premium wines are produced by John who studied Winemaking and Viticulture at Curtin University at Perth. He joined Derwent Estate in 2014 while the winery was being built. Traditional and modern techniques are applied at the winery to produce the best wines. His 3-year-old son always around the winery, we think, he might become just like his father.

He enjoys good food, coffee and love boarding kites.  Although the winery was built 5 years back, it is still being modified to meet the increasing demand. John is not the only one to oversee the wine production, he gets help from another winemaker Jacqui. She started in 2015 as Assistant Winemaker. Apart from her roles & responsibilities as Assitant Winemaker, she loves spending time with her kids, gardening and with their dog.
