One of the Australia’s First Families of Wine: Taylors Wine

Before, Taylors Wines became one of the members of Australia’s first families of wine.  The family was inspired by the Bordeaux wine producers and wanted to set up their own winery. They searched for the perfect place and fortunately, Wakesfield River in Clare Valley was selected on July 20, 1969. Interestingly, on the same day Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the moon. With Cabernet Sauvignon plantings, gifted by the Wynn family the Taylors’ Wines was born.

The first vintage, Cabernet Sauvignon was released in 1973 after their winery was built. It won the Montgomery Trophy for being the best red wine at the Adelaide Wine Show. However, the demand for red wines fell and to survive the family as the consumers were more interested in sweet white and fortified wines. By 1985, exports to the United Kingdom under the ‘Wakesfield’ brand name. With time the business was expanding and so was the purchase of property to meet the rising demand.

In 2000, the brand along with other Clare Valley winemakers decided to release a batch of 2000 bottles under the Stelvin screw cap, causing a sensation in the wine industry. After 4 years, the brand bottled 100% of wines under screw cap. Chief Winemaker, Adam Eggins was named Winemaker of the Year in 2007 and the very next year the brand celebrated their 40th Anniversary.

For four consecutive years in a row - 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, The World Association of Wine Writer & Journalists ranked Taylors Wines amongst the top 5 wineries of the world. Wines from this brand definitely deserve to be in your wine collection. Buy wine now!
