Clare Valley Winery & Riesling: An exceptional wine experience that goes beyond what’s in the glass

Every Australian wine lover can vouch for the fact that Clare Valley and Riesling are synonymous with each other. Clare Valley is one of the finest wine-growing regions in the country with Riesling as its most celebrated grape variety.

Red Wine

Located in South Australia to the North of Adelaide, the Clare Valley’s weather is warm but its altitude of up to 500 metres above the sea level, the enjoyable afternoon breezes and the cold nights make it a perfect place for Riesling.

The Valley’s great climate, clear skies and night temperatures that drastically drop help produce Rieslings with great flavour and natural acidity.

Riesling resists extreme cold weather but shines through in the right environment. It takes its own sweet time to ripen when compared to other grape varieties. This ripening enables high acidity and intensely fruity and floral aromas. In fact, it is one of the few white wines that can age for decades.

If we go by the book, Riesling is a sweet wine. However, its dry and semi-dry styles are also quite popular.
Sweet Riesling has strong apricot and peach flavours, whereas the dry ones have more intense notes of apple and grapefruit.

Clare Valley and Riesling are made for each other, that’s why the wineries located in the Valley try to make the best use of the fruit. One such family-owned winery, Skillogalee Wines fondly known as Skilly has devoted themselves to the art of making authentic wines since the 1970s.

The Skillogalee wines showcase the unique terrior of the Clare Valley which includes high-elevation and hillside vineyards. The winery is aesthetically pleasing as it is surrounded by natural beauty and native flora and fauna of the Spring Gully Conservation Park.

After having produced many award-winning wines, the winery’s cellar door and restaurant have also become major attractions for the tourists who visit the Valley. They even provide a variety of boutique accommodation options for wine lovers to unwind in the middle of beautiful vineyards waking up to picturesque views and gourmet food.

Their always in demand, Skillogalee Riesling 2022 is made after each parcel is fermented separately, enabling variation in winemaking and processing techniques to suit the individual characteristics of each, and creating an opportunity to enhance individual highlights, before blending it immediately prior to bottling.

This straw-like wine with a green tinge has a big lift of jasmine and lemon zest. You will find that the palate is full of flavours with succulent and juicy acidity reflecting tangerine, some Tahitian lime and citrus spices. With an impressive length, and a natural acid backbone, it ends with a mouth-wateringly dry finish. Have you tried it yet?
