Heathcote Wines - A Winery Surrounded by Heritage

The Heathcote winery was founded back in 1978, making it one of the first commercial wineries in the Heathcote wine region of Victoria. The building was established even earlier in 1854, when Thomas Craven opened Craven’s Stores. This was inaugurated in order to cater to the production needs of the gold miners of the region seeking fortune in the gold rush days.
The logo of the brand depicts a coach service – which was run by Craven himself to deliver supplies as well as mail in & around Central Victoria. He operated from the stables behind the Cellar Door. This is why the ‘Mail Coach’ range of wines is so significant for the brand.

In the late 1990s, Heathcote Wines was bought by a group of wine enthusiasts, led by pioneer Stephen Wilkins. All the partners shared a collective passion to craft wines that could aptly reflect the terroir and elegance of the Heathcote region, while retaining the distinct style of the winemaking team. All their wines stand true to this belief – featuring concentrated flavours as well as aromas, intense hues and finishing elegance with Viognier splashes.

The company owns 2 vineyards –

Newlans Lane Vineyard:
Located 7 kms south of Heathcote, this 10.2-hectare vineyard is planted with Shiraz and Viognier grapevines. Initially established in 1978, this property has produced two of their most premium single vineyard Shiraz varietals – The Origin Shiraz & The Wilkins Shiraz.

Slaughter House Paddock: This 4-hectare vineyard site is situated 3 kms north of Heathcote, & consists of only Shiraz plantings – which are some of the oldest in this territory.
