D' Arenberg was established in 1912 by Joseph Osborn. He purchased property in the Mclaren Vale and Shiraz grapes were planted on eight acres of land. Sadly, only four acres survived. His son Frank harvested the first vintage of 100 tonnes in 1913. Since then, there is no looking back, the family has managed their wine business and crafted award-winning wines for the consumers. Since 1984, the fourth generation family member Chester Osborn is heading the business. In 2009, the company achieved a milestone. It became one of the founding members of Australia’s First Families of Wine.

Wine and Winemaking Mantra
All wines are basket pressed, even white wines. It is one of the only wineries in Australia to follow this method. They are fully in control of this labour-intensive process but the result is worthwhile for their efforts. Red wines are basket pressed after the fermentation whereas white wines are pressed before fermentation. The whites offer a delicate bouquet with lifted aromas, the palate is brimming with flavours and these are an epitome of elegant and balanced wines. Sustainable Practices
Most wineries are contributing to the environment through sustainable and biodynamic practices. D' Arenberg has also taken some measures to ensure the well-being of the environment. All the vineyards are also National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia (NASAA). It means no use of chemical sprays, fertilizers and pesticides. They have found another organic solution for the weeds. The vineyards are managed with 200-sheep which feeds on the weeds and provide manure to the vineyard. 30% of the energy for manufacturing comes from solar power which will reduce the carbon footprint by 30%.
