All you Need to Know About d'Arenberg Wines

One of the founding members of Australia’s First Families of Wine, d'Arenberg Wines was established in the year 1912 by Osborn family. Their estate is located in the famous McLaren Vale region of South Australia. At present, Chester, the fourth generation member of Osborn family, manages the company’s winery and vineyards remaining true to the traditional methods.

Their wines speak in abundance of the outstanding quality, being crafted using the time-honoured techniques of production which involve open fermentation, basket pressing and foot treading (generally, reds are foot trodden in the fermentation process). The original personality of vineyard is retained and allowed to flourish by the viticulturist with minimal intervention in the fields and winery as well.

Keeping in mind the concern for sustainable development, vineyards by d'Arenberg Wines, whether owned or leased, are certified by NASAA for biodynamic and organic processes. This policy allows them to work in a natural and environmental friendly way which has proven to be beneficial for the development of a strong root system. The resultant wines are induced with great soil character, a lively tannin structure and fine minerality.

The winemaking process is taken care of by the Chief Winemaker - Chester Osborn. He himself taste the grapes to determine the picking time. The grapes are then classified and crushed in small batches after which they are transferred to open fermenters. This is the only winery using the most labour intensive winemaking method where both red and white wines are basket pressed. After fermentation, all their red wines are aged on lees in oak barrels and the final drink is bottled without fining or filtration. This highly labour intensive, controlled and gentle process is all worthed with the resulting high quality wines.

White wines by d'Arenberg are highly expressive offering lifted aromas along with a delicate bouquet. These elegant bottles are full-flavoured and balanced with fresh acidity leading to a lingering finish. On the other hand, their red wines are sophisticated and fragrant. The impressively structured palate is filled with fruit flavours with subtle oak. These elements are complemented by youthful tannins and mineral notes seamlessly paving way for a complex spicy and earthy characters.
