Top 5 Heathcote Wines That You Can’t Avoid This Year

In 1977, the Heathcote winery was purchased by Stephen Wilkins and his partners as an independent group of wine enthusiasts. All of them shared a passionate commitment to make wines that reflect the region and also retain the winery’s own distinct style.

The wines thus produced attested to this commitment by showcasing concentrated fruit aromas and flavours with intense colour and a finishing elegance enhanced by splashes of viognier.

In today’s day and time, Heathcote Winery is meeting the demand for wines that are truly reflective of the region yet they show the Winery’s individual stamp of innovation and excellence.

Let us check out the top Heathcote wines that can be bought online:

1. Heathcote Winery The Wilkins Shiraz 2008

This strong red-purple coloured wine is made from grapes from three different blocks. Fermented in open and basket-pressed, these grapes are then sent for 15 months in barriques from four Burgundian coopers between one and three years old. It is bottle-matured for another two years prior to release. The wine retains all flavours of plum and black cherry fruit, supple tannins and balanced French oak.

2. Heathcote Winery The Wilkins Shiraz 2016

This stunning opaque red with a brick-red hued wine is concentrated with flavours of ripe black fruit with bordering cassis. Made with brown spice from whole bunches, notes of tapenade and liquorice strap plus red earth. The opulence and richness of the fruit showcase its vintage. Matured in French oaks for 16 months, 40% of which are new.

3. Heathcote Winery The Origin Single Vineyard Shiraz 2016

The fruit for this wine comes from 36 yo vines, where the whole berries are open-fermented. During maturation, the skin stays for 7 days on skins and kept for 14 months in French oaks which are 30% new. The resultant drink has a deep colour with very intense flavours but doesn’t show dead fruit characters. A full-bodied red wine that makes you twirl.

4. Heathcote Winery Curagee Shiraz 2007

An attractive and concentrated blackberry, spice and floral bouquet. This wine has a thick texture with copious amounts of dark fruit and spice. The level of tannin is swallowed with ease by the generous level of fruit.

5. Heathcote Winery Curagee Shiraz 2008

This crimson-purple coloured wine has a fragrant multi-berry bouquet leading to a lively and attractive medium-bodied palate with splashes of flavour popping up along its length.
