Discover the Real Langhorne Creek With Bremerton Wines

The wine industry has long been a male-driven world but the Willson sisters are making a change. Award-winning winemaker Rebecca Willson and her sister Lucy run the Bremerton Wines, located in the Langhorne Creek wine region, South Australia. The winery was founded in 1988 when the first wine, 57 dozen of a Cabernet Sauvignon, was made with grapes purchased from a neighbour. The family continued experimenting with small batches of fruit over the next five years, launching a Shiraz in 1991. After three years of trial winemaking and farm production analysis, two blocks were identified as suitable for growing grapes and offering a better return per hectare. The first grapes were planted in 1991 – 2 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon & 1.5 ha of Shiraz, followed by 2 hectares of Cabernet and 2 ha of Shiraz in 1992. Since then, the winery has invested heavily in a premium French & American oak program using 220-litre barriques to ensure subtle and complimentary oak influences. It also utilises traditional open-top fermenters, made from stainless steel and a purpose-built barrel cellar for maturation.

Setting New Standards
The sister duo loves what they do and it shows in the wines they produce. They always have a focus on high quality and individualistic wines. The winemaking team headed by Rebecca has taken the quality of wines to new standards. She seeks the best possible fruit from their own and other specialised Langhorne Creek vineyards to craft traditional, full-bodied, mouth-filling wines that show a consistency of style whilst encouraging the true varietal grape characteristics.

Sourcing the Best Possible Fruit
The winery has planted 290 acres at Langhorne Creek from which it selects the best fruit each year with the balance being sold to other wineries. Langhorne Creek sits on the rich soil of the Bremer River flood plain and is known as a cool climate region, relatively disease-free and a producer of exceptionally high and consistent quality fruit. The predominant varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, with plantings of Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay, Malbec and Petit Verdot. For the past 11 years, Bremerton Wines has been awarded the James Halliday 5 star rated winery which ranks them in the top 5% of all Australian Wineries.
